The AI Revolution

The latest revolution in Artificial Intelligence (or "AI") is the use of artificial neural networks to perform "Deep Learning", essentially a more sophisticated form of pattern recognition.  A few years ago some people started to tweak the process to produce patterns rather than recognize them.  Now there are neural networks that are creating art (some of which has sold at auction!) and other more mundane images of scenery.  As usual the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (or "MIT") is at the forefront of this research and has published a fascinating short video of software they produced that lets one "paint" on AI-generated scenery using high level constructs like "door" and "tree".
