Here in the jungle suburbs of Peradeniya in the Central District we feel few of the nations troubles this week: the sounds are the usual chirping birds, hammering of nearby construction, and rolling afternoon thunder. An occasional SMS message bleeps the phone with a news update:
* Another suspicious package or abandoned motorcycle has been found and destroyed by controlled explosion in Colombo
* Various heads of state have been accused of negligence and asked to resign
* Mourners are burying dozens of bodies in quickly excavated cemeteries
Possibly the shock and sadness is turning to anger. Then the next worry is that hatred will increase and fear will spread. But methinks that "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth would lead to a world of the blind and toothless."
