Greetings from Edinburgh, Scotland, on the shortest day of the year. Here you see us at noon, when the Sun is at its highest. Rising at a tardy 08:42 this morning, it only managed to get about 10° above the southern horizon, and will disappear again at 15:40 this afternoon, after just seven hours on the job.
But in spite of that lack of sunlight it isn't particularly cold here. And there is the cheerful thought that each day will be a bit longer and brighter than the last. In a few days we celebrate Christmas with family, from exuberant kids to cackling grandparents, up in St Andrews. We wish you also happiness and returning light.
